UNFAIR LABOR PRACTICES - MEARS - ORLANDO! A federal investigation has been launched into unfair labor practices, including driver's claims that they were unfairly singled out by Mears for taking part in a protest and strike earlier this month at City Hall. The cab drivers had their tag numbers and vehicle numbers taken while protesting and later Mears suspended or terminated the leases with those drivers. This is illegal since Mears does not "employ" cab drivers, but they are independent contractors and therefore does not provide them with any benefits. Mears holds a monopoly in the city of Orlando for cabs and has many complaints against them for unfair practices with their independent contractors. copyright 2008 |

This is the question..... We have found through trial and error that it is much easier for your customer to understand a price increase, when you add a gas surcharge, than to up your prices. There is good reasoning behind this. Each year, you may have normal pricing increases and your customer understands this, but to keep increasing your pricing as the fuel is jumping.....well ...the customer will come to mistrust you as a company. By keeping your pricing the same and simply adding a fuel charge, you can raise or lower that charge according to market fluctuation and customers will understand that! Fuel does fluctuate, and hopefully will be on it's way down again  . copyrighted 2008 |

UNSAVORY WEBMASTERS....HAVE YOU CHECKED YOURS LATELY......? Unfortunately there has yet to be developed a governing body for webmasters. Maybe we should try to get one started! Webmasters are in a very, very trusted position. Many of us know our business, but don't know the web business. We pay an auto body man to handle our cars, we pay our banker to handle our money and we pay our webmaster to handle our interests on our websites.....but are they? |

Pittsburgh transportation company sold to French firm French transportation firm buys Pittsburgh owner of taxi, shuttle and limousine companies PITTSBURGH (AP) -- Pittsburgh Transportation Group, which operates Yellow Cab and other shuttle and limousine companies in Allegheny County, has been sold to French conglomerate Veolia Transportation, the company announced. |
